Jahazi Modern Taarab is one of Tanzania’s well-known modern Taarab groups, recognized for songs that blend entertainment with real-life lessons. Their music often addresses love, jealousy, betrayal, hypocrisy, social rivalry, and everyday human behavior through poetic Swahili lyrics.
The title “Mkuki Kwa Nguruwe” comes from the Swahili proverb “Mkuki kwa nguruwe, kwa binadamu mchungu,” meaning that people may easily cause pain to others, but feel deeply hurt when the same pain is directed at them. The song criticizes hypocrisy and double standards, reminding listeners to treat others with the same care and fairness they expect for themselves.
