A new official visualizer for “Kiboko Yangu” was released on May 30, 2026, as part of a wider digital rollout of classic and new music from Mzee Yusuph and Jahazi Modern Taarab. The song is also available worldwide on major streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music.
The title “Kiboko Yangu” translates from Swahili as “My Whip” or “My Match,” a phrase often used in Taarab music to describe someone who has a strong romantic or emotional hold over another person. In this context, the song carries the poetic and expressive storytelling style that has long defined Modern Taarab.
Mzee Yusuph, the former leader of Jahazi Modern Taarab, remains one of the most respected names in Tanzanian music, known for his emotional vocals, rich Swahili poetry, and major contribution to the growth of Taarab across East Africa.
