Kenyan R&B artist Nikita Kering teams up with global Kenyan sensation Sofiya Nzau on “Intro,” the opening track from her new EP The Lick Back.

Released on May 29, 2026, The Lick Back is a five-track EP that marks a bold new chapter in Nikita Kering’s sound, following her 2022 project The Other Side. The project features “Intro” with Sofiya Nzau, alongside songs such as “Niwache,” “Give Me My Money,” “Outside,” and “Sema Ukweli.”
“Intro” carries a tribal-inspired and upbeat sound, blending Nikita Kering’s Nandi roots with Sofiya Nzau’s Kikuyu influence. Nikita explained that the intro began to feel “quite tribal,” which led her to reach out to Sofiya Nzau, and their studio connection helped shape the song’s cultural direction.
The track serves as a powerful prologue to The Lick Back, an EP built around revenge, self-expression, and reclaiming power. Sonically, the project moves beyond Nikita’s familiar soulful ballads, exploring R&B, Dancehall, Gengetone, rap-influenced delivery, and darker emotional textures.
Through “Intro,” Nikita Kering opens the EP with confidence, culture, and collaboration, setting the tone for a fearless body of work that connects modern East African R&B with deep Kenyan identity.
