Tanzanian Modern Taarab singer Leyla Rashid, also known as Malkia Leyla Rashid, delivers a celebrated taarab song titled “Langu Rohoni.” Performed with Jahazi Modern Taarab, the song is known for its poetic Swahili lyrics, emotional delivery, and classic modern taarab sound.

“Langu Rohoni” was originally released in May 2011 as part of the My Valentine album. The song was composed and produced by Mzee Yusuph, the former leader of Jahazi Modern Taarab. True to taarab’s long-form tradition, the track runs for approximately 10 minutes.
Leyla Rashid is one of Tanzania’s respected Modern Taarab voices, widely recognized for her expressive singing, elegant stage presence, and emotionally rich performances. Through Jahazi Modern Taarab, she became known for songs built around Swahili poetry, love, patience, social lessons, and moral reflection.
“Langu Rohoni” carries a message of patience, silence, and inner strength. The title can be understood as “mine is in my heart” or “it stays in my soul.” Leyla sings about avoiding public disputes, leaving judgment to God, and choosing peace over arguments, especially when facing provocation, rumors, or disrespect.
