โI havenโt ever said this publicly, but I unfortunately canโt carry my own children,โ Gomez, now 32, revealed. โMy medical issues would put my life and the babyโs in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.โ Though she didnโt specify the exact cause in the interview, Gomez has been candid about her 2015 lupus diagnosis and her kidney transplant in 2017. Additionally, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2020, requiring medications that could complicate pregnancy.
Gomez shared that while this journey looks different than she once imagined, sheโs grateful for alternative options like adoption or surrogacy. โI thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone, but Iโm in a much better place with that now. There are wonderful people willing to help through surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. At the end of the day, I donโt careโmy child will be mine.โ
Her boyfriend, music producer Benny Blanco, has openly spoken about wanting children, calling it his โnext goal in life.โ Gomez, whose mother was adopted, shared that sheโs deeply grateful for her familyโs path and is excited about the future, even if it doesnโt unfold traditionally.
This vulnerable interview comes as Gomez is busier than ever: her Rare Beauty line has propelled her to billionaire status, sheโs up for a best actress Emmy nomination, and sheโs gaining acclaim for her role in Emilia Perez, set to hit Netflix soon. Yet, despite her thriving career, Gomez emphasizes that family is at the heart of her plans.
