Nigerian Stars Shine Brightly but Miss Grammy 2024 Glory

In a surprising turn of events at the 66th Grammy Awards, Nigerian artists, despite their strong presence and multiple nominations, missed out on taking home any awards. Among the nominees were some of Nigeria’s most prominent and influential musicians: Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Asake, and Olamide. These artists have been instrumental in pushing the boundaries of Afrobeats and have garnered international acclaim for their contributions to music.

Burna Boy led the group with four nominations, followed closely by Davido with three. Asake, Arya Starr, and Olamide each secured a nomination, showcasing the diverse talent within the Nigerian music industry. Their nominations were seen as a testament to the global reach and appeal of Nigerian music.

However, the ceremony, held on Sunday, February 4, did not see any of the Nigerian nominees emerging as winners. Instead, the Best African Music Performance category, for which Davido, Asake, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr were contenders, was won by South African singer Tyla. Her victory over the Nigerian artists came as a shock to many, considering the significant impact and popularity of Nigerian music on the global stage.
