Kim Jong Un Cries as He Urges Women to Address Declining Birth Rate

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made a heartfelt plea to thousands of women, shedding tears as he urged them to play a vital role in reversing the country’s declining birth rate. Kim’s emotional moment unfolded during a National Mothers’ Meeting in Pyongyang on Sunday, December 3.

With a handkerchief in hand, Kim Jong Un implored the women to consider the nation’s decreasing birth rate as their collective responsibility. He emphasized the importance of good childcare and instilling the values of the communist party in their children.

The women in attendance, adorned in traditional multi-colored attire, joined their leader in shedding tears during the emotional address.

The event marked the first National Mothers’ Meeting in 11 years and came in response to concerns about North Korea’s declining birth rate. Addressing the audience as ‘Dear Mothers,’ Kim emphasized the societal tasks they should engage in, including raising children to carry forward the revolution, promoting family harmony, and addressing social challenges.

Kim Jong Un emphasized the significance of mothers’ roles in their families and society, likening the meeting to a party congress or a plenary meeting of the Party Central Committee.

North Korea’s last officially released census data dates back to 2008, which indicated a population of 24 million. Current estimates suggest that the country’s population has increased to approximately 25.7 million people.
