Jennifer Lopez Opens Up About PTSD from First Romance with Ben Affleck

In a candid revelation, Jennifer Lopez spoke about the lingering effects of her first high-profile relationship with now-husband Ben Affleck. The couple, who first captured public attention in the early 2000s, faced intense media scrutiny, which Lopez says left them both with PTSD.

This intimate detail emerged as Lopez discussed her upcoming projects with Variety, published on December 20. She’s gearing up for the release of her new album, “This Is Me… Now,” on February 16. This album is a spiritual successor to her 2002 release, “This Is Me… Then,” and it comes with a companion film that documents her renewed romance with Affleck.

Expressing her apprehensions about putting their private life under the spotlight again, Lopez reflected on their growth over the years. “But we’re older now, wiser. We know what’s really important in life,” she shared, emphasizing the value of staying true to oneself over public opinion.

In her upcoming movie, for which Affleck contributed as a co-writer, Lopez includes a personal letter Affleck wrote to her back in 2002. The nature of the film remains intriguingly ambiguous, with Lopez describing it as a “musical experience” that integrates music, visuals, and a narrative to be lived.

The pair’s romance initially blossomed on the set of their 2003 film “Gigli,” quickly becoming a hot topic for tabloids. The immense pressure from constant media attention was a significant factor in their breakup and the cancellation of their 2003 wedding.

Following their split, Lopez married and divorced Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins Max and Emme. Affleck married Jennifer Garner, sharing three children, Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel, before their divorce in 2018.

Their journey, from the trials of their first romance to their current life together, showcases a story of enduring love, resilience, and the transformative power of time.
