The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) has officially released the Form Four National Examination Results for 2025, showing a notable improvement in overall student performance across the country.

The results were announced today, Saturday, January 31, 2026, by the Executive Secretary of NECTA, Professor Said Mohammed, during an official briefing held in Dar es Salaam.

Increased Pass Rate Nationwide

According to the official statistics, the national pass rate has risen by 2.61 percent, reaching 94.98 percent. A total of 526,620 candidates passed the examination after attaining Division I, II, III, and IV, reflecting continued progress in Tanzania’s secondary education sector.

In addition, performance among top achievers has also improved. 255,404 students, equivalent to 46.1 percent, scored Division I to III, marking a significant increase compared to the previous year.

Number of Candidates and Schools

A total of 569,883 candidates sat for the 2025 Form Four National Examination. These students were registered from 5,864 secondary schools across the country.

NECTA also recorded 25,927 private candidates, who sat for the examinations at 813 approved examination centers nationwide.

Compared to 2024, the number of candidates increased by 7.67 percent, indicating growing enrollment and participation in secondary education.

Gender Distribution

Out of 569,914 registered school candidates in 2025:

  • 266,024 were male, representing 47 percent
  • 303,859 were female, representing 53 percent

These figures highlight continued strong participation of girls in secondary education nationwide.

Examination Attendance

Attendance during the examination period was high, standing at 97.5 percent, equivalent to 555,606 candidates who sat for the exams as scheduled. This reflects strong commitment from students and effective coordination at examination centers.

Positive Outlook for the Education Sector

The improved performance in the 2025 Form Four examinations is being viewed as a positive outcome of sustained efforts by the government, teachers, parents, and students to enhance the quality of education. The rise in pass rates and higher divisions signals strengthening academic standards and better learning outcomes across Tanzania.
