Originally released on February 11, 2023 under the Red Line/Azéto-Gbèdé label, “Coup Monté” marks Vano Baby’s latest step into a refined Afro-soul and rap fusion. Vano Baby has steadily evolved from a provocative underground rapper in Benin to a more mainstream Afro-pop presence, all while retaining his signature lyrical edge.
“Coup Monté” centers on themes of betrayal, separation and resilience in romantic relationships. The lyrics convey the pain of realizing that someone set up circumstances just to break up the bond — essentially it’s a “fixed-match” in love where one party feels the system was rigged against them.
