Egwu, released on 15 December 2023, is a collaboration between Chiké and the late Mohbad, produced by DeeYasso. It’s a catchy Amapiano-influenced Afrobeats track that mixes Igbo, English, and Pidgin to create a vibrant, dance-floor friendly sound.
The title “Egwu” means “dance” in Igbo, and the song leans into that — celebrating music’s power to uplift, move, and connect regardless of background or circumstances. Mohbad’s vocals open the track, and Chike builds on the theme with smooth verses and hooks.
Mohbad (Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba) was an emerging street-pop icon known for his distinct voice, heartfelt lyrics, and the ability to capture both rawness and melody in his music. His untimely passing in September 2023 made Egwu one of his last major recordings.
