Authorities in Equatorial Guinea plan to install surveillance cameras in government offices after a high-ranking official was allegedly found with hundreds of compromising videos. The move follows an investigation into Baltasar Ebang Engonga, director of the National Financial Investigation Agency, who has been suspended amid accusations of recording explicit videos with various women, some reportedly linked to prominent officials.

The investigation began as part of a broader probe into corruption and embezzlement when public investigators discovered over 400 videos on Engonga’s computer, some involving wives and relatives of government leaders. The leak of certain videos to social media has sparked public outrage, leading officials to address the controversy.
Prosecutor General Anatolio Nzang Nguema stated that authorities are examining whether Engonga’s activities may have posed a public health risk, suggesting potential prosecution. Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue announced that surveillance cameras will be implemented in government offices to curb “improper and illicit behavior,” adding that employees found engaging in sexual acts on-site will be dismissed immediately.
