Former US President Donald Trump recently described singer Taylor Swift as “unusually beautiful” while questioning her political authenticity. In an interview for the forthcoming book, Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass by Variety’s co-Editor-in-Chief Ramin Setoodeh, Trump shared his thoughts on the pop superstar.
When asked about Swift in November 2023, Trump praised her looks and talent, saying, “I think she’s beautiful – very beautiful! I find her very beautiful. I hear she’s very talented.”
However, Trump also expressed skepticism about Swift’s political views, suggesting her liberal stance might not be genuine. “I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump,” he said.
Swift, who remained silent on her political leanings until 2018, has since voiced strong support for Democratic candidates. She endorsed Tennessee Democrats Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper during the 2018 midterms and publicly supported Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the 2020 presidential election.
Despite Swift’s clear political endorsements, Trump questioned their authenticity in the interview. “She is liberal, or is that just an act? She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act?” he asked. He added, “It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal.”
The book, set to release later this month, promises more insights into Trump’s views on various public figures and events. Swift has yet to endorse a candidate for the 2024 presidential race.
