In 2020, amidst the global upheaval caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ugandan artist Eddy Kenzo released a poignant track titled “2020 (Tweni Tweni).” This song offered a reflection on the year’s unexpected challenges, marked significantly by isolation and the sudden halt of everyday life due to the pandemic. Notably, the song was born out of Kenzo’s personal experiences during a period when he found himself stranded in Ivory Coast due to travel restrictions, unable to return home because of Uganda’s closure of its borders as a preventive measure against the spread of the virus.
