Tiwa Savage, renowned Afrobeats singer, is set to make her lead acting debut in the much-anticipated film ‘Water and Garri,’ slated to begin streaming on Prime Video in 2024. The film, a collaborative effort by Everything Savage, Unbound Studios, and JM Films, marks a significant step in Savage’s long-aspired acting career.

Directed and edited by the talented Meji Alabi, who has previously worked with notable artists like Burna Boy and MrEazi, ‘Water and Garri’ narrates the story of Aisha, played by Savage. The film, which is a spinoff from Savage’s 2021 EP of the same name, sees her joining forces with Vannessa Amadi-Ogbonna, Jimi Adesanya, and Alabi as executive producers. Savage expressed her excitement about the project, highlighting it as a dream fulfilled and an opportunity to showcase a vulnerable side of herself to fans and new audiences alike.

Shot primarily in Cape Coast, Ghana, ‘Water and Garri’ also features an impressive cast including Mike Afolarin (Far From Home), Andrew Bunting (Dynamite), and Jemima Osunde (New Money). The film is penned by Comfort Emmanuel and will feature music by Tiwa Savage herself.

Ayanna Lonian, director of content acquisition at Prime Video, praised the film for delivering a contemporary African story with a fresh perspective. Jimi Adesanya, a producer and executive at Unbound Studios, also expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with Prime Video, emphasizing the cultural significance of this project that celebrates the intersection of film and music, particularly from Africa.

‘Water and Garri’ promises to be a captivating film, showcasing Tiwa Savage’s versatility as an artist and heralding a new era of African storytelling in global cinema.
