The Tanzanian government has confirmed receiving news from Israel about the tragic death of Tanzanian student Joshua Mollel. Mollel, who was studying in Israel, was reportedly abducted on October 7, 2023, during an attack by the Hamas group.

Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, January Makamba, communicated that he had spoken with Mr. Mollel’s father regarding this distressing news.
Makamba detailed ongoing plans to send Mr. Mollel’s father and another family member to Israel, accompanied by a government official. They aim to meet with the Tanzanian ambassador and other officials in Israel to discuss and gather more information about the incident. The Minister assured that with the family’s consent, further information would be shared in the future as appropriate.
Joshua Mollel’s death marks the second Tanzanian student casualty in Israel attributed to the Hamas attack, following the earlier confirmed death of Clemence Mtenga, who was also in Israel for agricultural studies.
