Les Mangelepa, hailing from Kenya, is a prominent musical ensemble that emerged during the golden era of Kenyan Lingala music, sharing the spotlight with notable acts like Super Mazembe, Baba Gaston, and Samba Mapangala. The group’s inception traces back to 1976 when it splintered from Baba Gaston’s Baba National, with Bwamy Walumona (Le Capitaine) as its original bandleader. Excitingly, they’ve recently made a comeback with a fresh and captivating song called “Kizungu Zungu (Remix).”

During the 1970s and 1980s, Les Mangelepa experienced the zenith of their popularity, leaving an indelible mark on the music scene with chart-toppers like “Embakasi,” “Maindusa,” “Walter,” “Safari ya Mangelepa,” “Odesia,” “Dracula,” and “Maboko Pamba.” However, in 1986, a pivotal member of the group, Bwammy Walumona, departed from the band after embracing Christianity and becoming a born-again Christian.

Following Walumona’s departure, Les Mangelepa went through further divisions and underwent numerous lineup changes. Remarkably, as of 2011, the group continued to actively perform, with Kabila Kabanze Evany leading the way.
