Kenyan hip-hop sensation Matata returns with yet another electrifying rap anthem titled “Gengetone Love.”
RELATED: Matata – Mapema
“Gengetone” represents a sub-genre within Kenyan hip-hop that has evolved from its predecessor, “Genge,” which gained popularity in the early to mid-2000s. The term “Genge” essentially translates to ‘mass of people,’ signifying music created for the everyday masses.
In “Gengetone Love,” Matata explores the ordinary way in which the youth and the general populace in Kenya express their love and emotions towards one another. It’s a genuine reflection of the affection that regular people hold for Gengetone music, which has become a cultural phenomenon in Kenya.
