The film’s story revolves around two fictional Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by Rama Rao), and their friendship as they battle against the British Raj.

Rajamouli first became interested in the stories of Rama Raju and Bheem and began to draw connections between their lives, imagining what would have occurred if they had met and become friends. The film was announced in March 2018 and principal photography began in Hyderabad in November 2018.

Due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, filming lasted until August 2021, with the majority of scenes filmed in various locations across India, as well as a few sequences filmed in Ukraine and Bulgaria. The film’s musical score was composed by M. M. Keeravani, with cinematography by K. K. Senthil Kumar and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad. The film’s production designer was Sabu Cyril, and V. Srinivas Mohan supervised the visual effects.

RRR Release Date

RRR was originally scheduled for a theatrical release on 30 July 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting production disruptions, the release was postponed. A new release date of 8 January 2021 was announced, but this too had to be revised. Eventually, a release date of 13 October 2021 was announced, coinciding with the eve of the Dusshera weekend.
