Oatmeal Porridge

Oatmeal Porridge

Oatmeal Porridge is a delicious breakfast staple that is easy and quick to prepare. And it is fantastic to customize! Make it with water or milk or a combination of both and with either quick-cooking oats or rolled oats (old-fashioned oats).

Here’s a basic recipe for making oatmeal porridge:

RELATED: Healthy porridge bowl

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups water or milk (or a combination of both)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1-2 tablespoons of sweetener of your choice (honey, maple syrup, brown sugar, etc.)
  • Optional: cinnamon, nutmeg, or vanilla extract for extra flavor
Instructions:
  1. In a medium-sized saucepan, bring the water or milk (or a combination of both) to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Add the rolled oats, salt, and sweetener of your choice, and any optional spices or flavoring you want to use.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and stir the oats continuously until they start to thicken and absorb the liquid. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Once the oats are cooked and have reached your desired consistency, remove the pan from the heat.
  5. Serve the porridge in bowls and add any toppings you like, such as fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, or a drizzle of nut butter.

You can also make a large batch of porridge and reheat it as needed. If you prefer a creamier texture, you can use more milk than water. If you prefer a thinner consistency, use more water than milk.

You can also use a slow cooker or instant pot to make oatmeal porridge, it’s easy and you can make a big batch to last a few days.

If you want to make it more delicious you can add dried fruits, chocolate chips, or any kind of nuts you like when you add the oats to the pot.
