Mfaz’ Omnyama, born Mphatheni Gobuhlanya Khumalo, was a legendary South African Maskandi musician, guitarist, and songwriter widely remembered as the “King of Maskandi.” Born in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal, he became known for his left-handed guitar style, poetic storytelling, and powerful social commentary rooted in Zulu traditional music. Mfaz’ Omnyama released classic Maskandi songs such as “Khula Tshitshi Lami,” “Ngisebenzile Mama,” “Ngiyashisa Bhe!,” and “Iyabiza Lendoda.” He also worked with Phuzekhemisi and Ihhashi Elimhlophe in the influential Maskandi supergroup Izingqungqulu Zomhlaba.
