Harmonize Celebrated After Winning Big at African Entertainment Awards

Tanzanian music star Rajab Abdul Kahali, popularly known as Harmonize, received a rousing heroes’ welcome back in his homeland on Monday, November 20. This grand homecoming followed his remarkable success at the African Entertainment Awards 2023 in the United States, where he bagged three prestigious awards.

Landing at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, Harmonize was greeted by a sea of fans, media representatives, and officials from Tanzania’s National Arts Council (BASATA). The atmosphere was electric, filled with pride and joy as the artist showcased his trophies – Artist of the Year 2023, Best Music Video for “Single Again,” and the King of The East & Bongo Afro Bongo Flavour titles.

These awards, introduced in 2015, are not just accolades but symbols of the unity and strength of African entertainment on a global stage. They celebrate African artists who have made significant contributions to the industry and who drive social change across the world.

During his U.S. tour, Harmonize also sparked excitement among his fans with news of a potential collaboration with American rapper Bobby Shmurda. Teasers of what seemed to be a music video shoot were shared, hinting at an intriguing blend of Tanzanian and American musical styles.

However, not everyone was onboard with the celebrations. Tanzanian commentator Baba Levo expressed skepticism about the significance of Harmonize’s awards, labeling them as minor and comparing them to “church competition” awards. Despite this criticism, the overwhelming response from fans and the arts community in Tanzania was one of celebration and pride.

Harmonize’s achievements and the upcoming collaboration with Bobby Shmurda are eagerly awaited by fans, eagerly anticipating what this fusion of talents will bring to the music scene. As Tanzania continues to produce influential artists like Harmonize, the nation cements its place on the global music map.
